If a friend or family member is in jail, you probably have many questions. Here are the three most important things you need to know about how bail works in Washington.

  1. The price is the same everywhere
In Washington State, the law says that bail bond companies must charge a fee. This fee is 10% of the total bail amount.

If the judge sets the bail at $10,000, you pay the bond company $1,000. This is a fee for their service, and you do not get this money back. Because the state sets this price, you don’t need to “shop around” for a better deal. Every legal company charges the same.

  1. You will need a “Cosigner”
To get someone out of jail, a person called a cosigner must sign the paperwork.

As a cosigner, you are making a promise. You are saying that the person in jail will show up for all of their court dates. If they miss court, you might have to pay the rest of the bail money or give up things like a car or a house that you used for “collateral.” It is a big job, so make sure you trust the person you are helping.

  1. You can do it all from home
You do not have to drive to a jail or an office to start the process. At A-Plus Bail Bonds, we offer “Bail by Phone.”

Our head office is in Vancouver, WA, but we can help you anywhere in the state. You can sign all the papers on your phone or computer. Once the papers are signed and the fee is paid, we call the jail and start the release process. It is fast, easy, and you never have to leave your house.
